This plant is found in the hot
desert of Sinai. Its botanical name is Artemisia Judaica. It is well known
in the bible as the bitter herb found in the desert during the wandering
of the ancient Israelite. Its common name is judean wormwood or the
wormwood of the bible. Holy wormwood (Artemisia judaica) grows in the
Levant, the lands east of the Mediterranean. Its Arabic name is baathran,
boaitheran, or shih, shih baladi. It is a well known plant as a snake
repellant by burning its branches.It also has medicinal uses. |
